Hey, Guys my 240sx is driving me crazy when I go to second gear some times the car jerks , is this because Im not putting the car in second all the way? , because I figure if I shift it in to second hard and firm and leave my hand on the shifter then let go it goes in with no problem, and also when I down shift its hard to put it back in 1st gear. .. Just want to make sure im driving the car right, first stick shift car .. p.s bought it about 3 week ago

Are you just letting the clutch out when you throw it in second? Your not very descriptive of the event so were automatically gonna jump to a driving skill conclusion.

And yes stop trying to downshift into first. It's there to get the car moving from a stop. Not to down shift into. Although do able unless you know what your doing you shouldn't. Nor should you need too.

I know exactly what your talking about. This kid I was teaching to drive stick in his 240 did the same thing. Its because your thinking too much about shifting and your shifting at too low rpm/not giving it enough gas/not letting off the clutch quick enough. All of those combined will make you car jerk like that. Just go to a big space and learn to drive your car, dont worry about letting off the clutch too quick, once its in gear get the fuck off the clutch lol. And shift into 2nd after you get moving at a decent rpm, I mean you can take off from 2nd from a dead stop/low rpm if you really want, but youll need some more experience to do that. And yea like everyone else said, dont down shift into first. Remember brake pads are cheaper than transmissions...

**Since its your first stick shift car, and your still getting used to driving it, try doing shifts at around 3-3.5k rpm and work your way down as you get used to shifting/driving. Thats how I started and it worked for me till I got used to it,(and the kid I taught to drive lol) that way its not too high or low of an rpm and it will prob help you get over that jerking you get when going into second.**

No prob, you just have to get used to your clutch pedal. If your clutch is more at the top of the pedal and you find yourself riding the clutch a little try slidig your seat back a notch or two, and vise versa...

Complaint: Manual Car Jerks/Trailor hitches when shifting.

Cause: Driver Error.

Correction: Jack up driver, remove car, replace car with automatic car.

But seriously it sounds like you're letting the clutch out too fast. How long have you owned this car? Some cars just take longer to get used to than others.

Also, please don't shift into first while already moving.

Honda clutches are hella soft.

^Is that off topic? Oh well. I learned stick in a Honda. It's easy to learn in a car that you don't really care about.

As for the "not all the way in gear", what are you talking about? When it's not all the way in gear and you attempt to engage the clutch, the gears will grind.
