Cheap Built Motor or drive mine till it dies?

I've come a across a good deal for a built KA24E and tranny. My current KA @180k still pulls hard and runs pretty decent. It does burn oil pretty bad though. My tranny is another story. It rattles like crazy (throwout bearing?) when I start the car, sometimes I feel it slip, sometimes hard to get into first, and is starting to grab very high. Plus, first gear is hard to engage smoothly in traffic and is even worse when the car is cold.

Ideally I'd like to do my own build and while the motor is out, gut the car and repaint the entire thing. But the deal for this built KA is hard to pass up, especially with my current issues.

I want to start tracking (auto-x, road race) the car and running it hard, but am a bit unsure how it will hold up in it's current state with constant abuse.

Should I just beat on my current motor and tranny until something gives or jump on the built motor? Opinions are appreciated. Thanks.

BTW, I'm not looking to turbo anytime soon. I'd just throw an intake and exhaust on it and pay for track time, brakes, and tires.

No interest in SR20 or KA24DE due to me living in the "Peoples Republic of CA" and the nazi CARB laws. The cops already have eyes on the S-Chassis and I see them looking at my bumper for an intercooler everyday. My neighborhood is crawling with police and CHP.

THERES NO WAY I WOULD DO ANYTHING WITH THAT CAR OTHER THAN GET GAS IN IT AND DRIVE IT TO WORK!!!! Common do you really want to have it die on you unsuspectingly? Just buy that built motor and trans, put em in there, and if you still wanna build your own motor build the orig. that you pull out. Trust me on this one, i had this happen to me this summer and i wound up with no car this whole summer because unsuspectingly my motor went and i had to rebuild it, i mean ya its fun and a GREAT experience but i would have rather been able to choose when i wanted to rebuild it rather than having to rebuild it and not having all the money for all the parts at once. So just get the built motor, or find another one that is in good condition and put it in there, then start building your motor as you get the money/with out being rushed to have your car back. And you could even build it specifically to being a track car or w/e car you want.
