I thought people shy away from metal head gaskets if its not completely necessary because it transfers the weak point of the engine to somewhere else.

If the engine were to blow it's better at the headgasket than somewhere thats harder to replace... i might be completely wrong tho

you're right and wrong.
yes it moves the weak point somewhere else. but at the same time, you can control where the weak point is by eliminating it.
when you do your rebuild before you boost, get the block hot tanked cryotreated that will let you know if there are cracks and/or weak points in the block. if there are, and they are fixable do so, otherwise get another block.
with a strong healthy block, and a built head, with that metal headgasket, you have have to pay attention to your boost levels. it becomes very easy to over do it. so get it all done and take it to the shop and invest in some very very good tuning. if you talk to the shop, they can also tell you what boost you can run safely. so keep your shop informed.
good luck

Eek, if you are getting a metal head gasket, you better be careful. First, talk to a machine shop, research online, etc. The seal has to be PERFECT. But to answer your original question, ARP is THE name in aftermarket fasteners. Use them. I'm not sure if they are made for the SOHC, but I remember that someone put the DE head on a SOHC block, so maybe the mounting is the same?

I can't vouch for these guys, but I remember hearing their name, I believe they are a reputable shop.
