"Drifting"- term that is becoming used to lightly

I have noticed that alot of people will do a power slide around
a corner or burnout and get sideways a little and call that a
drift. I think that with the up and rising scene of Drifting in the US
this will be more common. Drifting is going through a SERIOUS of turns not just one

for some reason the definition of "drift" is very controversial and i try avoiding the debated like hell subject cuz there are so many different styles and meanings and it seems to change or mean differently in different kinds of auto sports and different countries. It's been debated to eternity:eek:

drifting is fun...thas wut it's all about...cars in general should be fun... and sharing your ideas and set ups and everything...techniques..... but it is a lil anoying when u get these lil posers swearing they know everything there is to know and not know crap...and it's a lil anoying to hear these people call them selves drifters when all they do is power slide....

yeah drifting is fun . but like all other new things the posers will eventually give up when they realize money doesnt buy skill or they wreck their car. but to all their own i guess. also it doesnt matter what car you have you can drift any fr car that is set up correctly. just thought i would throw thatin. so keep safe and sideways and have fun

i know wher eyou are coming from it can be really annoying, but if they are practicing gotta give them some credit right? its playing basketball dunking and getting every 3pointer in? no.. its just throwing hte ball around and having fun.

They are trying to drift and wheather they are or not doesn't matter...

there will be people that piss us off about drifting, i am probobly one of them but maybe one day i wont be, maybe one day that sideways burnout kid with a camero will show up at the track and drift really well!? who knows... best be nice to everyone right?

I've never done any serious drifts. OF course not I'm driving a FF, it's next to impossible.
However once I get a 240sx I want to get into it. It's a great new scene that not many people know about and lots of people just find it dumb around me.
So maybe all the little ricers won't jump all over it and attempt to drift in their Cavilars and Civics.

powersliding is not drifting... a true 4 wheel drift starts before the turn, where as in powersliding you go into the turn grip style then apply gas to break the tires and slide out of the turn. not "drifting"

but what the hell, everyone drifts rite? even that 8-15 year old n00b dots(he's lied so much i wouldnt be surprised if he was 4...) hey guys, let's all just jump in to my mom's minivan(chevy venture, the ultimate drifting machine) for some good ol' DRIFTING. let's drift our roller blades to school alrite??

Wouldn't that be a power-over drift???

Hmm iono. Anyways, I've been practicing grip for awhile, and go to a canyon 3-4 times a week. Since I only have a FF right now (buying 240sx my dream car in August), so all I can do is ass drag it. But honestly, who cares there shouldn't be a arguement of whom is elite or not. Even if they used braking drift or something they'd still be annoying phuckers for talking about it so much.

Basically, don't stress yourself out.

Drifting is a state of continuous and controlled oversteer when executing a turn or series of turns.

There is no such thing as a "true 4 wheel drift" because if all 4 wheels have lost traction there is no control of the car; at that point it's just an uncontrolled loss of traction.

A powerslide is a quick burst of oversteer that occurs when the rear end breaks loose during a turn and traction is regained after the turn. It is not continuous, so it is not a drift.
