i don't know how much it is worth but my brother ran a 12.8 at 106 mph on a stock rb20det w/ a $220 used gt2510 at 15 psi (blitz sbc-id EBC), stock injectors, stock SMIC, stock MAF, GTR fuel pump (On clip freebie) Blitz tuned ecu (came with clip) and just 3 in straight pipe (like $150) as far as power mods go. Other than that he had 2 way LSD (came with clip, freebie) and a set of 28 x 9.50 x 15 slicks (mine, free to him) which netted a 1.7 60' he even had stock clutch, granted it would start to slip but the one good cool run netted the 12.8. It is very possible with minor mods, and yes, i consider him a pretty good driver.

lol.. umm your friends rb25 has problems then... rb25>20.. simple as that. i agree completely with toad, we both ran pracitcally identical times with our basically stock 25's with shit ass 60's i ran 3 13.3's at 105-107 with 2.05's and up 60's, with stock boost, FMIC/3 inch back thats it. ive never seen a rb20 with the same mods run below a 13.6 faster than 102 mph... ive yet to race an sr, or a rb20, but ive raced a stage 2 STI with a pass in my car and pulled about a car length up to top of 4th gear on our most evenly started run.

as for the 20 to get into high 12's your gonna prolly need a slightly larger turbo and injectors unless you like running at 100% duty cycle... and be ready to run a 1.7-1.8 60 as well.. i really doubt a 12 is possible on the stock 20 turbo.

dont get me wrong i love all RB's but a 20 is relitivly harder to easily make power with little mods.. but Carl has a beast :)

run a 12 and prove me wrong by the way. good luck! got any pics of the 300TT?
No my friends didnt race the rb20 .. There was a big discussion about this on a 240 forum Im not sure which one awhile ago.. Also u said sti well friend did race one not sure of the stage and lost by about 3 cars and thats only because they raced to 4th also ..

12's are possible on a stock 20. It just takes the right setup and driver. The last time I went to the track (2yrs ago) I ran a 13.2 with a 1.9 60ft. The mods I had were 13 psi on stock turbo, FMIC, timing bumped, exhaust cutout, slicks, and a slight tune with a afc. If I had kept at it I know the car could have gotten 12's...

I thought that the stock turbo start losing efficiency, as well as have the chance of shreading to pieces above 12 psi.

What can a stock RB do at 12 psi (which should be roughly 240-250 to the rear wheels).

After seeing everyones opinions on rb20 here and else where .. Ive came to the conclusion that everyone thanks the rb25 is always the way to go and not to give a rb20 a second thought.. WHich I guess is cool because after my s14 sr car is finished Im gonna build a rb20 convert... And since the rb20 isnt in such demand because "it sucks" the price for a quality clip will be wonderfull and allow me to do some much more with all my savings since its not a rb25.....just my .02 sorry

Very true. Many people seem to underestimate this motor...

I dunno.. I think it's an 'alright' motor, but without tons of mods its quick rather than fast I would say. You get what you put into the engine. If you're willing to put down a lot of money, you can have a really fast car. But if you're skipping corners and just going economy tuning, you'll get economy speed. Its a decent motor, but I won't give it that much credit

I think he is talking about the race I had with my friends Rb25 S13 vs my RB20 S13 with the same mods. Nothing wrong with his car, He didn't "Blow me away like everyone thinks a 25 would do". The last race we did was pretty good start by us booth and it was pretty even.

The RB25 can nevar lose :1bowdown j/k

See thats the way I look at the 25. I think the 25 is alright since it has those weak ring lands. Plus I like the revs the 20 has over the 25. Plus a 20 sounds the best. For some reason the 25 sounds funny to me...

Whelp... I'm running 0's right now. My engine died while we were heading to a local shop to get the timing adjusted. Weird symptom... Btw, can anyone give me a rough idea what went wrong?

While driving at about 10mph, the car just dies. We try starting it again but the needle on the car just wiggles at 0 rpm and from the sound of it, does not even start "catching". It just makes a noise as if the starter is trying to start the car with no response from the engine. After giving it a few more shots, on the second to the last one, we hear a grinding noise that is pretty hard to describe. We were startled at first, but my friend told me to suck it up and try starting it again while he observed what was happening in the engine bay. I tried after wondering if my engine is dead, but this time, there is no noise when I put the key to the "start" position.

After what seemed like hours, we made another attempt, and this time, it made the weird sound for like 1 second and went dead silent. With nothing to do, I called some friends and we started pushing the car back to my friends house (about 1 mile away, towing was estimated to be 60$...). After we get there, they all want to know what is wrong with the car, so I show them (thinking that there would be no noise). All of a sudden, the car almost comes to life, but stalls out (I usually have to give it gas to start).

Now I'm confused..., is the starter fried? If it is, why the hell did it come back from the dead like 3 times??

well i went 12.52@111 last night with a BPU RB25 @10psi so theres ur answer now lets see some one witha RB20 do the same.... here is the slip

You forgot to add that you were on slicks.

Here is my friend at the track running a 13.1 with stock turbo, slicks and a year old SAFC tune everything else stock... He could of made 12s but his clutch like exploded after this run... So 12s is def do-able on a stock 20 turbo

(he is the 240 on the far side that gets the jump, the other 240 is KA-t his best time is a 11.9)

How many lbs of boost and was this just a stock motor or did it have the basic mods?

Sounds like you possibly might have broken your timing belt or slipped a couple of teeth.
