I finally got my GT2871R and I got DIF stainless steel braided lines for it and the oil feed line has the banjo fitting on it. Do I still need to get an oil restrictor? Or does the factory banjo bolt restrict the oil? I've read a bunch of forums and I can't seem to get a straight answer on this.

When I worked for a Garrett distributor we would recommend a restrictor with a .035" hole for all ball bearing applications. I also stocked .065" restrictors for larger frame turbos or high oil pressure applications. Garrett ball bearing cartridges do not like to see more than 60 PSI or they become inefficient because of oil windage on the shaft. Not only will you blow oil through the seals, but you will loose spool speed and in turn sacrifice response.

You should be able to visually inspect the hole to see if there is restriction. Garrett uses some crazy thread on the oil inlet... (7/16-24 flare, I think). Its similar to a brake line fitting. I would purchase the restrictor from ATP and ditch the banjo portion on this side of the line.

Hope this helps!

so i finally got my oil restrictor and was wondering what kind of thread sealant to use for threading it into the turbo. i read up on a bunch of other discussions and all they talk about are the water fittings with the crush washers and not to use tape on the AN fittings since they seal on the flare. I emailed garrett about it and they wont get back to me. so what works best?

but there was no crush washer supplied with the oil fitting so I assume that you must have to use some sort of thread sealant. the water fittings have crush washers but the oil fitting does not
