sounds kinda like its not getting the fuel it needs. what all have you done to the car?

 

This sounds pretty straight forward, but I let my fuel pump fully prime before trying to start. Sometimes on really cold days it takes two attempts. I assume you're already letting it fully prime, but wanted to point out the obvious just in case.

 

Many mods, walboro pump, rb25, pte6262 turbo, FMIC, koyo radiator, 3 inch IC piping, apexi safc2....

Anyways.... Starts JUST FINE first time, but if it dies within 30 sec or a min its almost impossible to start back up...

 

I don't know why it would die within 30 seconds though. That's what is odd.

 

No it doesnt die, but if i choke it off or something and it HAPPENS to die....

With cold clutch lines and an unforgiving stage 3 6-puck and the less stable idle of a cold engine.

 

Have you tried to turn the key on and off to let the pump prime 3 or so times before you try cranking it again? Maybe your battery/connections arent very healthy too... just guessing.

 

Havent tried that, but it sits in the on position for a bit inbetween cranks so i doubt it.

Im thinking if anything maybe its running to rich and flooding out or something.

And the battery connections are clean and tight, crank speed is not an issue.

 

Spray some ether into the intake plenum before a start when you know it's going to be an issue. If it fires right up then it's probably fuel related. If not, then you can cross that off your list.

 

I have a feeling its the exact opposite...

Cars run rich when cold. And when cranking the longer i wait before cranking again seems to make it sound like it will start easier. So i think its flooding out or something but ill give it a shot.

 

i wonder if he is having idle air control valve problems as to why it is dying.

 

No, again it does NOT die by itself, it idles just fine. Im saying if i turn it off or choke it off in the first 30 sec then try to start it up again.

with most fuel injected cars you can WOT and it puts it in clear flood mode from what ive heard. dont know if this might help you... do you give it any thottle to start?

No i usually never do, and yea i am aware of the WOT fuel cut. But with the temps being below zero the battery doesnt last too long. And it hasnt happened recently for me to test,

But when my battery is good or its warmer out ill definitely try it.
