Header/intake comparison q's (searched for 2 hours!)

Ok guys, after searching for 2 hours (1am-3am) on everything intake and exhuast for a 91 ka24de, I have just a few questions left unanswered:

1) between a full AEM short ram intake and just sticking the K&N FIPK on stock piping, which do you think is a better bet? bot are kinda pricey, just wondering if the extra (better?) tubing on the AEM system would be more advantageous than the stock tubing w/ the k&n filter.

2) since i have a '91 that means I am OBDI right? which also means i only have one O2 sensor? (so if If/when I get headers, I dont have to drill an extra O2 sensor bung/bypass the dumbycat like on a 95+ 240)

3) finally in all honesty im still in the air about whether to go with OBX or Hotshot headers... also how much would it cost to have a muffler shop install/weld up (or drill and put a O2 sensor bung in if have to) either of the 2 headers. I would undertake it myself but im lacking the proper tools/am not able to jack my car up enough. (all my mack tools are in storage currently cause I have no place to store them as of right now).

Thanks a buch in advance for clearing this stuff up. oh and if no once can put the "OBX vs. Hotshot" to rest I would at least like to know the price issue and whether or not im OBDI or OBDII and how many O2 sensors I have.

ok you're OBD I. As for the intake question, if you're just going with a FIPK then just get the mafs filter adapter and any cone filter for like 50 bux. If you want a full intake with piping, go with AEM. The header won't require any o2 sensor bung drilling since you're obdI. Also go with Hotshot, it's proven. The obx is hit or miss with fitment.

AEM intake = ordered.
Thanks for the info! yeah i think im just going to save up for some hotshots... i'd rather spend twice as much for some proven performance. As for ordering the AEM, the K&N filter would have been like 120$ so i just went with the AEM short ram for like 150$ (local shop).
anyone know how much labor on header install is though? just wondering...
again, thanks for the info!

ok. i think i might be set on the hotshots... im going to go look up megan in a sec. as for my final question: how much would it cost to get headers installed? or is it even that hard. also if you could give me a quick rundown of the tools needed (besides lots of WD40/liquid wrench :p) and on a scale of 1-10 how difficult it is to do it myself, that would be cool. im not asking for a step by step write up, im sure i can find one of those elsewhere, i just need to know what tools i need if you know off the top of your head.

Headers really aren't that hard to install. They're kind of a bitch due to the angle of things but it should be able to be done in a few hours... The only thing that is required is to take off the old header, remove the gasket, put the new gasket on, put the new header on and then bolt up the exhaust... As for the intake I'd go with the AEM.. although it says you've already ordered it, good choice ;). I wish AEM would make one for the SOHC.. but nope! Definitley go with the hotshot header though as I've heard bad things of the OBX one cracking, although I have heard of a few hotshots cracking.

thanks man, i think once i get my mac tools at my house i might just get some jacks and stands and attemp to do it myself on one of my days off.
As for the header i really thinks its just hit or miss, you take gamble either way of cracking your header if u run ur car hard (which we all do on this forum :D) I would just rather start out a head of the game with some *proven* quality headers (hotshot). I have no problem spending a bit more for quality, In my original question i was just trying to feel out, from other more experienced than I, if it was really worth the money; wel it sounds like it is.

side note : I want my intake NOW NOW NOW. lol! usually im a patient person... my s13 changed that!

the obx header is an exact replica of the hotshot. just get the obx and save your cash... people only back the hotshot so heavily because a.) it was made first and b.) it cost them more than the obx will cost you. i've heard of fitment problems for both obx and hotshot, and yes, i've even heard of hotshot headers cracking. they're both poor quality products... if you really want quality, drop 400 and get the DC header.. but, is it really worth paying 400 dollars for 10 horsepower?

Header..... not headers....
wow, why do people care so much about grammer/spelling (both fo which i am terrible at by the way)?? if IIRC this is not an english forum... anyway i believe I did call it a "header", at least in my last post i did... stop posting useless stuff that offers nothing to the discussion at hand.

@revolution: yeah thats what i was thinking in the begining too, but i would rather spend a bit moer money and get a header that has a proven track record of less of chance of a) not cracking and b) not fitting correctly/needing fabrication to fit correctly. *shrug* i guess while i ahve the money im going to try and get the best i can (within reason). the point you made up about 400$ for 10 ponies is very true. but i would be willing to shell out 3 bills for 10hp(hotshots)
