Headlights go up but won't go down!

So all of the sudden one day both of my headlights stopped flipping down. I finally got the time to check if they even work at all, and they do. if i manually put them down, they flip right back up when i turn the headlights on, or hit the headlight button thing. so for some reason my headlights just won't go down. I checked all of my fuses and they are fine.

Now i just so happened to notice on a friends car that the second relay box (that's covered by our intake box/piping) has a couple relays HL RET UP and HL RET DOWN. So my best guess would be that the down relay is shot. I can't really get to my box without taking my whole intake off, and it's raining so it's going to have to wait.

In the mean time, i figured i'd post and see if anyone here has had the same problem, or any advice.

ps, how much do these relays cost?

I have the same problem. I usually just manually put them down during the day. I HATE that they stay up. Let me know if it is the relay that isn't working, I have never tried to fix it.

yeah i was goin to say fuses but since youve checked those im not sure what it is

what are thoughs things next to the headlights? There is a left and right one it looks like you put oil in it or something?

check the headlight control relay - its behind the sidewall in the drivers side footwell.
Its either that or a broken wire or fuse you have missed.
Staying up is a safety feature for nissan if something breaks in the system to ensure the lights will work.

those would be the motors. u dont put oil in them, u keep rotating the knob until the headlight goes down. its a finger-crank.

yeah this seems to happen to everyone here or there. I just replaced the H/L RET relay and it worked just fine. it's like 15 from nissan, or you could get a junk yard one, but that could blow on you sooner or later.
