Have a KA24DE that is jsut about 13 years old. There is an old pilot bushing in there that I just cant get out. Is there any way to remove it? It doesnt spin and I cant pull it out. Is there a tool of some kind? I have a new clutch and pilot bushing I want to install. Thanx.

pilot bushing

Ok this may sound stupid but i have done it and it works everytime. Get a loaf of bread, get a socket that is as close to the same size as the inside of the bushing as possible. start stuffing bread into the bushing hole, now take the socket and put it on a extension backwards. Get a good heavy hammer and start beating the bread into the hole adding more bread when the bushing starts to come out. This works for me everytime.

Hmmm...very recoursefull way of removing it.
However there is a tool...it basically has two opposed forks which you insert behind it and screw something in the middle to push the forks out behind the bushing.
Then attach a slide hammer and use that to pull it out.
You can rent this tool at AZ and I think Advance Auto as well.

Make sure and put some fresh grease in there when your done.

the tool at autozone is way too large. I've tested it myself. I found a perfect socket that fit snug on the pilot bushing, packed it with bearing greese and hammer it in, the bushing poped right out. Messy but worked great.
You can dremel it away, it's just brase.

when installing the new one, lightly tap it in and straight as possible. I broke my new one and had to finish up the next day when i picked up a new bushing from nissan. SR and KA bushings are exactly the same btw. 6 bucks IIRC.

heh, i used a very very sharp chistel and a hammer, slowly cut the bottom of it as i hammered it in, then the top and pryed it free, after all its just soft copper, be careful not to dig to deep and hit the cog. took me about 10 minutes.

Autzone one worked perfectly, if yours didnt fit either A. They gave you the wrong one. B. You didn't know how to use it

I used the autozone one did it all in 2 minutes, no mess.

All Nissan pilot bearings are the same for every motor from like 1965 - 1995
