I am looking at a 1991 240SX HB with 94k miles on it. I travel about 60 Miles a day would it be reliable? Also it is very clean inside and out but I will take it to my mechanic to have it looked at. My question is will it be reliable? I plan on taking very good care of it if i make the purchase.

Edit: Also I would like to know if there is anyone in the Long Island, NY area selling a 240 or know anyone who is with a decent amount of mileage and some mods. Preferably with a KA no SR's or RB's.

Friend got close to 200,000 on his KA and he beats that car everyday. Best part it still runs like brand new. KA powa!!! lol

Ya don't really get the "rice" sound out of a KA, at least i don't with an n1 dual...definitely top notch, cost some $$ but well worth it imo. it does sound like a 4, but it's a big enough engine that it gets some depth and throatiness to it, not the bumblebee buzz you get from a 1.8 with a giant single muffler. if you're gonna do the intake and exhaust you might want to spring for a header and testpipe or magnaflow cat too, do the whole system while you're at it.

Yeah, it's over 1k, but not much actually...exhaust was $640, cat was $140, header was $360 (all shipped), and I just use a filtercharger with a cut airbox, $40 or so. You can probably get a lot cheaper header off ebay, I sprang for a HotShot. I dunno about a cheaper exhaust that won't sound all ricey though. You could also save some $$ by just gutting out your stock cat, but that might come back to bite you in the ass if you have to get emissions testing.

Didnt see it yesterday but I am going to see it today at 2 he had it at the shop becuase their was a gas leak hes getting it fixed now. I'm gonna go look at it then take it to the mechanic sometime this week or check it out myself. What would be the key places to look for rust? He has everything checked out on the car.

Edit: any rust besides the hatch

reliability depends on how well the car owner(s) took care of it. a high mileage car that has been taken care of is what you want compared to a low mileage car that has seen 1 oil change.

you shouldnt have many problems with a 91 rusting with low mileage. Usually for some reason the 89-90s are the rust buckets..
Is there a reason for this? Or is that just speculation on your part? Are you talking the hatch area?

I used to put 1000miles a week on my 92, ran great and never let me down.

and you'd be a fool to spend any more than $20 on an intake, its just a pipe. spend your mony on a good reusable filter. as for exhaust SSAC is like $150, is GREAT quality and is one of the nicest sounding exhaust i've heard on any 240 in the area. I myself just make my own, they come out as perfectly as I want them and give me the same performance
