Can't run unless its swapped. I was looking at a running 5spd for $2700, so I feel by doing this I saved enough of what I had for a swap.

So psyched. Can't sleep.

 

Shop picked it up today. Auto --> manual swap today, loose seats being bolted down..

ordered HKS sequential BOV..

 

Haha sweet strut towers. The auto/manual swap isn't hard at all if you just get oem parts from a shell.

I'm looking forward to it man. Nothing was working out for me, my jobs pay shit, no spare time, so finally I gave in and got the dreamcar. Haha lets hope everything keeps coming along well!

 

So some more progress today. Went to the shop to finalize the work being done. Found more scrapes and imperfections on the paint / body, so I'm leaning towards priming the car black soon. The hood has a dent, so I may replace that eventually.

Ripped off the stock SE spoiler with one hand to find the plugs, that I'm going to have to fill. Also, the radio antena hole has to be filled.. Any suggestions as to how I should fill the holes?

Hopefully after the car is out of the shop, I'll be able to then buy some coilovers, sway bars, do the z32 brake conversion and a radio (speakers and amp).

 

well you could always like glue a very thin sheet of wood underneath the wholes then bondo over it if you can do body work if not get that shop to fix her up

Thanks man- Yeah, I was going to ask them if they could patch it up for me. Ordered some nismo motor mounts today from EAT Motorsports, hopefully one of the last things i'll have to order. Going to be so broke after this. So worth it.

So a few new updates..

Went to do some interior work.. I salvaged a radio, and some interior panels from a junked 240 nearby me, to replace my hole with an OEM radio (for the timebeing) and not have cracked interior panels.. Haha I peeled off the 'carpet' material on the door panels, looks [and smells] much better.

Not a SPOT of rust in the engine bay, looks CLEAN.

I sold the blown KA24DE (128k miles) and tranny for $80, and somehow managed to throw it in a guy's trunk. Said he was on the forums, so we'll see if he reads this.. Power steering fluid leaked everywhere, tranny fluid did the same.

Found out that EAT motorsports is taking from the 18th until the 28th (thurs) for the motor mounts

 

DAMN, that sucks. I've heard that sometimes they make the motor sit higher, to a point where it touches the hood and/or your strut tower bar doesn't fit or something. Idk tho, let me know.

 

Another update, this time with some pictures. Nismo mounts finally arrived today, so I went out to clean the engine bay. Picked out small rocks, pine needles, and grime from the engine bay.. It was COVERED in grime, but I managed to clean most of it out. Looks a lot better. Only an after picture of it, sorry.

I was wondering though about a few things; the guys at the shop told me that I'd probably need a new radiator (he said koyo, just his preference) but it isn't necessary. I'm already putting 2x 10 inch fans in back of the radiator, so. Also, he said I could still have a battery in the engine bay (slim battery..?) or just rewire it to the trunk. How much do those kits go for to rewire it?

So should I pick up a new koyo radiator and the battery relocation kit? Or just use the stock radiator with 2x 10inch fans for now, and a miata battery?

**Also, should I pick up some z32 poweslot rotors for $150 shipped? Part #'s are 552PSR and 552PSL.

Which every man, i recommend the koyo tho, its a nice radiator. But if you already have the fans then sure use them. And as far as the battery idk, either way is about the same.

 

Ended up getting a miata battery from autozone. Using the stock radiator now, i'll upgrade it after I upgrade my brakes.

Transmission was dropped in today, auto --> manual swap is done.

 

Yay! What's next for the motor?

 

Well after they get the custom fmic piping it's being dropped in.

I'm thinking a z32 brake conversion for the next part..

Update: The SR20DET motor is being dropped in tonight, intercooler and piping installed tomorrow, and wired up this weekend. The car is finally coming together, so I might have a running SR powered hatch by this week, or next. The shop is doing clean work (from what I've seen) and has kept me posted on the progress.

I do regret not having the space to do it myself, but it probably would've taken MUCH longer if I had. Maybe when I get it back I'll clear out enough space in my garage to be able to work on it.

I know something will go wrong, its uncommon to have an SR with NO problems. Just hoping theres no knock, and the compression rate is fine..

 

Update: They're finishing the fmic piping, the engine is all wired up. Haven't cranked it yet, driving it back sunday..

 

Strut tower bars arrived today, UPS took forever.

 

Car is being finished, probably going to drive it off this next week. Taking a bit longer than expected, but it'll be done correctly, the first time..
