Manual seat belt questions.

I really hate my auto seat belts. They remind me of my 1st gen Talon. Anyway, I remember reading that you can use the rear seat belts for a front conversion but when I took the rear passenger out I noticed that I can only pull it out when it is level. If I turn it the way it would go on the frame I can't pull the belt out. Is this how it is supposed to be or is mine messed up? When I was taking the panels out I found pieces of glass because apparently the rear quarter glass was broken before so might it just be a piece of glass stuck in it?
I tried to take the driver side off to compare but it got late and I had to stop.

Some seat belt retractors have a little weight on a stem that is meant to go forward under sudden deceleration and lock the seat belt, keep it from pulling out. On a lot of cars that weight will lock the mechanism if the car is on a steep hill. If you change the way the retractor is setting you're tripping off that lock.

As far as I know the only Nissans with auto seatbelts are american. Canadian and Japanese Nissans (Silvia and 180sx I know) all had manual. It was kind of a trend from the early 90's I think because my '92 Eagle Talon also had them and I hated them as well.
I know that 180s will work perfectly but are $100+. Silvias will work but the trim won't for hatchbacks so you have to hack your trim or find the panels. S14s I've heard there is an issue with one bolts length and you have to do something to the interior for it to fit right.
I know of some s14s that I could get so I might get those and see how they fit. If they don't work I'm only out $25.
If I do get those does anyone know about the bolts and the trim that you have to modify?

By 200sx, you mean the European/Australian 240sx, not the USDM 240sx, correct?

Also, the Silvia seat belts will fit perfectly, just like the 180sx ones, but for both you need to get the interior trim pieces to match for the hatchback. Also, I remember someone here who posted that the got Nissan to change the seat belts at like 1/2 cost or less, cause apparently theres is a Nissan TSB announcement stating that the auto seat belts are defective. You might try this, but I think it depends on the dealer/how convincing you are (IE hope you are good at BSing :) )

JDM panels won't align with USDM panels. They are totally different. I just bit the bullet and bought 180sx seatbelts with b-pillar panels for $100. I used the JDM panels as templates to cut out holes in my USDM panels with a dremel:

FYI there is a spacer located in the top mounting hole of the seatbelt motor. Use that to space out the pulley. If you get 180sx seatbelts then everything should bolt right in.

the panels are different because of the auto seatbelt system. if you look at the headliner on USDM cars they are cut to leave room for added space for the system to be properly installed. this makes the panels different.

it was a bullshit luxury that as always lazy americans found somewhat desirable at one point. "never worry about forgetting to buckle up again." I mean come on... now we have cars that actually park themselves? wtf? decade from now we'll be able to take naps and just put the car on auto-pilot. unnecessary bullshit to drive up cost in cars and in repairs :crazyrant
