Hello all. I bought my first s14 on Friday. Ive owned 4 s13's and I think it's time for something new. I had contemplated an s12 sr20 build but couldnt find a mark I s12, only mark II's. So I went with an s14 shell I found in reading pa. The redtop that is currently in my s13 will be going into the s14 over the next 1-2 weeks. As I get parts in the mail.
Whatcha think?

The driver side headlight is pushed back about 3 inches, It broke one of the pieces of threaded rode of the side of the headlight and bent the fender mounting point back. I think I can glue the headlight back together.

Interior is all there except for the trunk and the ecu kick panel

the engine bay is clean, and no rust on the rails. Although floor is rusted through in 2 small places. right behind the driver and passenger seat brackets. Not a big deal to fix, just annoying.

Does anybody know what this is. I think its a little valve for controlling coolant to the heater core. Im just not sure if I need to keep it, or what. If I can take it out, installing the sr will be a little less of a headache.

Also what is this? Its in the corner near the wiper motor.

First picture: Yes that's the heater control valve. Keep it or toss it, doesn't matter.
Second Picture: That's some sort of electrical box :p haha, I still have mine. Not sure If i need it or not, but i can go outside start my car and unplug it, if it doesnt do anything then we know we dont need it.

No it's so you can control if you want the Heater on/Coolant flow or not. tossing it is like taking out your Thermostat, you have no control and it'll take forever to get to temp. Not to mention you'll have heater 24/7.

Why will it take forever to get to temp? I understand you'd be constantly circulating coolant, but the s13 doesn't have this and has no problems getting to temp. I get the analogy of not having a thermostat, but I find it hard to believe the heater core has that kind of heat exchangable properties.

Oh and all I need is heat, no ac and will ultimately be a track car.

So if the s13 doesnt have one and can get up to temp, why would it be a problem in the s14?

Just run some rainX antifog on the inside of the front glass and rip all that shit out... oh wait, you live in PA.

Have you taken a look at your thermostat? Maybe someone did what I did to my current car and drilled some holes in it, or removed it entirely.

What about rigging that valve up manually to control your heater core, and have a different switch for the blower to just hit it with a solid 12v? As far as I know it should be able to kick on full speed that way, but you'd want to rig the climate control to pretty much only blow on feet and front glass if you did that.

It's not an issue, I start my car, today, It was roughly 68 degrees outside, shorts and a hoodie weather. anyways, started it. let it idle for not even a minute, and it was up to temp. granted i have NO vacuum lines or coolant lines underneath my intake manifold, And i have no thermostat + a huge aluminum radiator. and I have none of that valve shit, straight off the front of my engine. the coolant lines run right to the heater core. cant wait for in the winter :)

^ for suspension it'll just be stock until after winter. Until then Im just going to acquire all the pieces I need. I'm going with stance gr+ pro coilovers. I haven't decided on who to get ruca's, tension, toe rods from. And recommendations? Also I need to find a spare s14 rear subframe and put in solid bushings and get it media blasted and powder coated.

Update:

So last weekend I took the sr from my s13 and put it in the s14. Trashed the s13, tears.

^:beer2: hellz yeah.

Gonna get it running again tomorrow. Just received my sonic motoring catback exhaust. got it for 135 + shipping. The price was right, but the welds look like shit. A blind person could have done a better job.

I also figured out what this is

its the wiper motor amplifier

Bought these today. Used tein s-tech springs on kyb agx's. Got them for 150. Good deal or Bad deal?

also my interior power on the s14 has gone from intermittent to nothing. No power to gauges, heater controls, windows or lighting.
