I was just curious about OBD on various engines.

Is the KA24DE('91-'95) OBD 0 (Suggestively) or OBD I?
And is the KA24DE('96-'98) OBD II?

Also... what OBD are these:

SR20DET (S13 - Red Top)

SR20DET (S13 - Black Top)

SR20DET (S14)

SR20DET (S15)

From Motorex (emphasis mine):

"We have had to go though all of the mandatory requirements for the DOT and EPA . Including crash testing , air bag testing , and OBD II to meet the Code of Federal Regulation requirements. Since Nissan did not perform any of these requirements, we have independently completed the research and development. The pricing reflects our cost of reseach and development."

The new VQ may in fact be OBD-II compliant, though. Nissan uses that engine in a lot of cars, and it's probably simpler from a manufacturing standpoint to just build them all that way.

nissandrifter, Here's an OBD information page that lists the 1995 240sx as being fully OBD-II compliant.
Thanks for the link. This isn't good news. In Chicago they test your ECU for OBD-II compliance, so that means I can't have a SR or RB swap in there and pass emissions test because of the ecu test. pinoyclass, where did you hear that about the 95s?

cars were onbly required to have OBD-II on '96+ models. even if the '95 240sx had OBD-II it wasn't required too. if you swap an sr into a '95 you should be alright. i'd check with the DMV first of course.

Here's a reference

And another

And another

PDM sells a "1995 DOHC OBD2 240SX Nissan OEM O2 Sensor" for $55. They do not sell a 1995 OBD-I sensor.

Here's a copy of the Jim Wolfe core list, showing only OBD2 ECU's for the 1995 model year.

Another product compatability list.

I cannot find a single reference to non-OBDII 1995 240sx.

nissandrifer, go outside and pop your hood. There will be an emissions control sticker on the underside of the hood. If your car is OBD-II, it will say so on that label.

I don't have a 240sx. I'm driving a modded sentra right now, I want to get a 240sx and swap in the RB25DET, thats why I was researching about the OBD-II, if I had the car I think I would know what it is.

Your info is wrong no matter how much you show me I have seen with my own eyes several 95 240's witout OBD II I have yet to see a 95 with OBD II. You show me a 95 240 with a OBD II then I will believe you but just showing me info dosen't change my mind since I have seen it with my own eyes...Stubby

odb2 wasnt required on cars until 96, but some manufacturers decided to put it onto thier cars earlier, all 95+ 240sx's are ODB-2 compliant

the first O2 sensor measures oxygen/fuel levels before the cat, the 2nd one really doesnt do crap, just making sure the cat cleans it up more.

Where was the 2nd O2 on that B16 and what car was it swapped into? Japan doesnt have emissions like that as stated above, now they do but not 10 years ago. Only reason I see it would have 2 O2 sensors was it the engine was swapped into a 96+ civic, where they just modified the stock wireharness to accept the engine.
