You can't go wrong with a PowerFC ... a bit more in cost, but it can do everything you want. Kinda overkill for modifying a car thats stock, but a great ECU nevertheless and can grow with you as you modify the car. You still have to have it tuned by an authorized apexi dealer. The settings you put into the unit with the commander only creates a base map for you. A rom flash with a nice fuel controller is a great place to start. Enthalpy fuel maps are really nice. Costly @ $500 for first initial tune, but only $100 each re-map ... His tunes are proven to work on all types of setups ... mild to wild.

I thought you can't adjust timing with the power FC...i think it's not worth the money...i've been happy with the E-manage ultimate...its a bit more versatile...but if you have the money just go with a stand alone the the AEM EMS...

When you configure the powerFC though the commander that is only for a base map ... you will still need to tne the fuel and ignition maps ... Yes, the PowerFC also controls the ignition. If you don't get it tuned correctly you take a chance of loosing the motor. From the Commander there is no intake air temperature correction chart for the ignition timing, no deceleration enleanment control, no running (ie not just start-up) intake air temperature fuel correction control, and a few others I have forgotten. These maps almost in the software, but they are not accessible - at least, not via the hand-held commander.

Whatever computer you decide to get, you need to have a reputable professional tuner dyno tune your car in real time.

If there's an HKS Pro shop near you then be a super baller and get the HKS FCon VPro. It uses a MAP sensor, has a 32x32 bit map and has been used to tune 1000whp supras and skylines for years so it has the reputation, reliability and track record.

HKS only lets authorized pro dealers tune the VPro so you know you'll be in good hands. Be prepared to spend ~$2500

Didnt you know, K Pro adds like 200hp.

Ive ran a SAFCII on my Enthalpy Tune for over 2 years now. Enthalpy's ignition map are usually spot on but the fuel map might possibly need tweaked. As far as Enthalpy outdoing JWT, that was like 4 years ago. I think JWT has improved there tunes since then. Both are super reputable tuners. No matter which way you go, get a wideband. Its the best investment ive made for my car.

Theres nothing wrong with Emanage, SAFC, or any other piggyback. Emanage is a pretty powerful piggyback. Your able to tune for fuel right out of the box and you can buy different harnesses to control ignition, monitor knock, and wideband AFR i think. Ive got Emanage on my RB but havnt gotten around to tuning it yet.

I figure that I will jump on this thread with some questions since there is some good information here.

I have an Apexi PowerFC w/commander for my RB25. The garage handling my current build has informed me that they are not experienced with the Apexi PowerFC. They recommended an Autronic or AEM unit instead. Unfortunately, I really don't want to spend more money on one of those since I already have the Apexi. The logic is that I'll spend more money paying them to tune on the Apexi than one of the other units they are comfortable with.

Any thoughts on this? I'm very computer savvy and learning more every day about the vehicle. I also have access to a Dyno. Would this be something I could just tune myself since the Apexi already has base maps for the RB25DET? Should I sell it and get one of the other units that this garage is comfortable with? Would it be in bad taste to take the car after the install is completed and have it tuned elsewhere (some place Apexi certified or whatever?)

I was told the basic emanage does not work, the ultimate does. Not sure if this is true but I called a buddy yesterday asking what version he had and he said the kid who tuned his *very reputable shop over here* said the basic does not work with the sr. I want a piggy back and wish I had the money for a power fc.

Piggy backs are a hack. Do it the right way. Get a true standalone

http://www.sakuramotorsports.com/

That is a good product and we have used it at the shop to build some amazing cars. Let me know if you need any info on it. I can get Carlos to forward specs and suggestions to you ;)
