Car:95 240sx S14 SE

Planning to turn this car into what I believe a Silvia S15 could be if it was released in the present day. This is going to be an ambitious and expensive project, probably more than what most people would spend on it, but pretty much every car available for sale has at least one thing I don't like about it. (That would be an awesome car if it wasn't for {this} or {that}, mostly if it wasn't a 4 door)...so I've finally come to the conclusion that if I'm going to spend $12,000-$15,000 bucks on a car that I'm not completely happy with, then dammit I'll build my own from the ground up lol...I've always been a really big fan of the S15, so that's what I want for the outside, front and back conversion, along with the inside being mixing and matching pieces from present day Nissans (dash, instruments, seats, convenience features, etc.) and have everything custom wired up. My goal is to have not a crazy Fast and the Furious looking car, but something totally custom built yet looks like it could have just rolled off a Nissan showroom floor this past week. When I'm done, this will be MY perfect car, and most likely something that you'll see at shows and maybe even a magazine. I'm learning a lot, this will be my first build and hopefully only build, but it should be worth it. Pics are coming soon, I'm starting with a 95 S14 shell, complete car minus motor and trans. The first step is picking out the parts to go in the build and buying them, everything from the tires and wheels to the ICE. I have most things picked out but one thing I'm having a problem picking out is some custom FACTORY LOOKING wheels. Something you could imagine Nissan having as a high end option on the car. The car will be black, so chrome wheels are ok, just as long as they're not crazy outlandish designs, just basically take a factory looking S15 and imagine the wheels on it, I'm figuring 18's would look the best. So, any suggestions?

not bad, looking to go just a little flashier than that, this was actually what I was thinking about going with to begin with:

factory 370z optional wheels...love the look of them, only problem is, they are already a factory option, was trying to see if I could find an aftermarket wheel that could pass as a factory wheel and hadn't been used as a factory option already...thanks for the suggestion tho, keep em coming!

First off, you would save yourself heaps of trouble and money if you just import a real S15. Second off, the S14 chassis is wider than the 15, so it won't be exactly a "plug n play" front end/rear end conversion. Finally, good luck. ;)

sounds like a cool idea. i have a similar vision for my S14, id like to build it up to how i feel it would fit in to todays standards, powertrain and all. I say go for it, if its what you want to do then do it-dont ever let anyone else tell you other wise regardless of their "reasoning". at the end of the day its your vision, your car, your money and your life. do what YOU want, shrug everyone else off.

Good luck and i hope to see some progress soon!

O I fully understand what I'm getting myself into, I've read all about how difficult it is and all but I just like the s15 rear better than the 240 rear. Plus, outside of people here and others who are really into the 240 scene won't even know what they're actually looking at. How I picture people reacting when they see this car when I'm done with it is to run home, hop on the internet and Nissan's website and try to figure out what this new car is Nissan has out cause they want one lol...thats why I want everything to look factory, but up to date factory. I have a plan outlined, and people interested in doing the work, just not posting anything yet til we're sure everything I want to do to the car CAN be done. Progress pics will most likely start coming within the next few weeks, and really pick up once my taxes come in. I realize it will be expensive, but I will also be driving what will almost amount to being a brand new vehicle built from the ground up. I plan to own this car for years, so there will be no corners cut. No rusty undercarriage, fender wells, etc. Think of this as my version of frame off restoring a 70 Barracuda (which, incidentally, will be my next project after I'm done with this one :beer2: I appreciate everyone's input, as I said I'm still learning different things, so keep it coming. Thanks!

I think the silvia rear looks outdated... and to an unsuspecting person, (if they only saw it from the back) might think its a modded pontiac. Personally I think you should look into doing LED's in your tails like the new charger... That would be different, and still look like something that could come from the factory now adays.

Side by side, you can defintily tell the dif, but if you've never seen an s15 and arent really into nissans in general...

It's all good, but you don't see many of the frame-up restorations driven much after they're done ;)

It'll be hot...til a shopping cart or a big pothole cracks one of the giant fiberglass/bondo sections...

Or a drunk driver smashes you and insurance pays bluebook on a 15+ yr old nissan that you invested $10k+ in.

Oh and for wheels, you COULD go with cobra R's... IDC what anyone says, cobra R's are my favorite wheels of all time. They even come in chrome if you want to be flashy... And would pass as factory wheels... Because they were factory wheels (Ford factory, but hey)

You're smoking crack, Cole, the only thing that is vaguely close is the SHAPE of the taillights. The rear of the Silvia is smaller and skinnier and doesn't even look remotely the same as the Grand Am. Personally, I think this is a horrible idea. With the money you are going to spend, you could have the modern iteration of the RWD sports car, the newer Z.

You've been to Japan and dealt with these cars in person... Like I said, if you had NEVER seen a S-15 and had no idea they existed, thats what you would associate it with...

I somewhat agree with cole, but really the only similarity is the talilights look somewhat alike. S15 are badasses and with the money you can do what ever you want. And from what you have described, that's you. So, if you what to do what make you say, " Daaum" then b all means do it. Cause I sure am fucking jelly of people with tha kinda money....

I know this almost sound stupid, but go to google images And look up s15 and it'll give you tuned up and other kinds of shit, see what you like best.
See above comment, replace "been to Japan" with "like JDM"

If you lowered and put a bodykit on that grand prix (which is not terribly uncommon around here) they would look a lot more similar.

Literally cannot understand how you are comparing these 2 cars... impalas have similar taillights to skylines, are you going to say they are near-identical? Lmao

#19 ·
cole has a valid point at least in my understanding of it. but box does too. the subject should be dropped... get back to what the op was talking about before the thread goes to crap i was enjoying it. damnit.

#20 ·
Even before I'd seen a s15 I would neeeeever associate one with a grand prix/am/whatever..

#23 ·
..so by saying most people could get those 2 cars confused/whatever your saying most people are ignorant? I'm not following.

Of course there are going to be some people that think they are similar, but its very safe to say the majority of import/tuner are not going to get them confused. Those who do get them mixed up will be few and far between compared to those who can easily tell them apart.

And just because they don't know exactly what a Silvia is I seriously doubt they would assume its a Pontiac grand prix.

#24 ·
no they wouldnt just assume its a gp no one said that.

THEY WOULD COMPARE them together like " hey that kinda looks like a gran prix from the back, but the front is different, what is that? OH its a nissan, hmm didnt know that."

thats the point that the op is trying to say i think.

And your right about the import/tuner world never mistaking them for eachother that is very true.

i should have not said ignorant, some plp just dont know any better about cars like we do.

plz dont take me for an ass! im just trying to help you understand that plp with no real automotive knowledge would say they look similar from the back

Here is my list of what is going into the car, will be edited and added onto as different things are decided on for %100 sure:

350z VQ35DE engine-not interested in turbo, so I'm going with this...300hp is plenty enough, might build on it just a little, but not much
350z 6 spd transmission-the more to play with the better :)
Coilovers-leaning toward Apexi or HKS, this is where you guys come in, on things where I'm having trouble deciding on a particular brand, feel free to weigh in with your opinion on what's best, price/performance/durability-wise...everyone is entitled to their own opinion, no flaming please!
Brakes-REALLY want Brembo's but obviously there a bit on the expensive side, looking at alternatives, possibly Wilwood or Stoptech
Exhaust-considering the engine, will have to have a custom exhaust, want single tip opposite side exits
Interior-working on mixing and matching different pieces together to create a factory look interior, 350z middle console with the navigation, 350z nismo seats, JDM Silvia steering wheel, etc.
Going to keep the car black, but with a twist, not sure what yet
JDM S15 red badging

Lots more will go into this detail-wise, but this is the basic outline of the plan for the moment...more to come

there is so many different brands of coils out there... ive heard lots of good things about functionandform coils.. you could take a look at those to start.

as for brakes z32 brakes are the bomb look into those, with drilled and slotted rotors
