So I currently do not own a 240, but ive been saving and saving and within the next month or so I will be buying my first...maybe....

I am just wondering what i should look out for, like any problems that this car has issues with in particular. Also, how easy is this car to work on, from pictures ive seen, there's plenty of room under the hood which will make working in there easier

Any warnings about the car in general?

Anything else you guys can think of would be helpful

Oh and if i do get one, anybody here from southern cali that would be able to help me out from time to time when it comes modding time?

Sounds like a plan lol.

Now i know im jumpin the gun with this one, but i usually like to have a plan so i dont go out and do random stuff that ends up making the car run and look like shit lol, but i keep hearing about the sr20det swap. Easy to do? And is it really a better/easier option than just charging the stock motor? Remember what i said about newb =P and how mmuch does it normally cost??

well thanks for all the help guys, so i was all ready to sell my paintball stuff, which would've instantly put about 1500 into my pocket and in addition to the 500 i have saved up i coulda gone out car shopping but then i realized....
1) i live on campus..id have to pay another like 500 for a parking pass
and
2) id have no where to work on the car x_x and nowhere to get an engine delivered when i decide to swap lol

$500 for a parking pass!! God damn, I thought the $100 pass over here was expensive.

My advice is to take the $1500 and buy a really nice 240. Save money to fix it up and learn how to wrench before you do a engine swap. Do a lot of research for a couple months before making a decision. You may change your mind and turbo the ka or swap in a CA/RB/whatever. Or you may even make the intelligent choice and start upgrading the suspension first.

so then you should just buy a 240, and dont drive it to school, work on it on the weekends or whenever you go home. whilst doing that you can save your money and when summer comes around you can order the motor, maybe have enough car knowledge to be able to do it yourself if you research enough, and then youll be driving around in your turbo 240!

lol well like i said, ive decided to hold off until summer...i may pick the car up spring quarter and do some suspension and just general maintenance stuff as for a 10+ year old car im sure there will be things that need to be cleaned up and worked on, and then once summer comes around I'll do the swap or turbo...i still havent quite decided...at that point i'll be off campus with more room...or i'll be on campus for summer school and its reaaally empty then anyways.
