Seatbelts & Antennas

I realize that these two subjects have nothing to do with one another, but they are my current problems.

I got my S13 about 6 months ago, and at that point I fixed everything I could at the time, now I'm actually taking time to go over the details, and the first two are definetly the biggest.

#1 - Seatbelt => My driverside automatic seatbelt makes a HORRENDOUS noise when I open the door, the motor is obviously defective. To replace it, it would be about $150 just for the part, and then the labor (which I would probably do myself). I don't like the auto seat belts at all anyway, and when I inquired at the dealer, they said no one with a sane mind would touch a conversion to a regular one (safety issues). I wanted to know what I should do. I'm open for harnesses like Sparco and Scroth, but only one set is supposedly D.O.T. approved, and I don't wanna get a ticket since this is my daily driver.

#2 - Antenna => My antenna broke, it ALSO has a motor! To replace this, it's approx. the same as the freakin' seatbelt :grinner , neadless to say I'm not happy. Is there a different antenna I could use? Maybe a black rubber one that's shorter?

Thanks in advance for all the input.

Chris was right, there IS a lifetime warranty on your seatbelts by Nissan. Now, the dealerships probably won't come out and tell you that, if they even know, but if they look into it they'll find out.

Any sort of seatbelt problem/defect has to be fixed free of charge by Nissan; it's a safety issue.

Yo might be able to use a different one but it will most likely have to mold it in. You might also loose reception.

you can buy a spare antenna at any parts store, my dad bought one for his 87 jetta and its aftermarket and its amazing. looks perfect on the car and works great...

and as for the seatbelt.. if they say "oh its just a sound"
u tell them that ur driving a car and your life is at stake, u want it to be fixed so that you dont hear the sound and have a vision of u getting into a crash and ur seatbelt not holding up in everytime it makes the goddamn sound... and they will listen and fix the sound, or replace the motor.

switch to manual belts :thumbsup (from a CDM or JDM car)

How hard and how much money will it cost to convert to the auto to manual? I don't exactly like the auto belts myself.

yes and yes

I just made an appointment with the dealer to fix the belt, they had no problems at all, even offered the info themselves that I could get it fixed for free. (Mossy Nissan in Clairmont Mesa - San Diego)
I WOULD prefer manual seatbelts, but if it's too much work, I'll just figure out something else. Plus, the issue will probably come up again when I get my new seats (saving up for Sparco Turino or Milano...mmmm)
Thx for all the input, if anyone has any experience with seatbelt swapping and/or antenna swapping on this particular car, it would be very helpfull.

As far as the antenna thing goes, I've been there, done that also...haha...Mine was broken, and at the time $50 for a motorized replacement on ebay was too much. So I ordered a rubber antenna for like $20 bucks...it works, but I wish it would've been better quality. Reception is a LOT worse.

As far as for taking out the old one, it doesn't take long, although it can be a pain in the ass. It's been a couple years since I did it, so I don't remember exactly, but I know the motor for the antenna is inside the hatch. There's a little "door" in the fabric where the factory jack goes, and the motor is reachable through there...

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, maybe you can find something about it online, or if I can find anything in the online copy of the FSM that someone hosted for a while, I'll upload that page...

Good luck,

Micah

my motor anttena broke in my 92 fastback but i still get reception. The only thing is that it woulnt go down and looks dumb. I heard someones antenna on here that it woulnt go up. Is there any way i can get my antenna to go down and keep it like that even if the motor is broken?
