SR Backfiring, Losing some power

Hey i just got my SR20 in my 90 240 about 2 weeks ago, i set timing to 15 and all of that and it ran great. I installed my Limited Slip and that night it ran great and everything, but the next morning it started fine but when i drive it or get on it at al it backfires REAL loud and a little black smoke comes out when it backfires. Im not sure what this is, but it is boosting and my BOV is open atmosphere. I searched all of this and couldnt really find a problem, i dont think its my MAF because i have checked it and it seems alright, but maybe not. Could it still be timing just messing up? or is it a boost leak or something? i checked for leakes at idle and under about 4 k of rev but i cant really find anything. Also, for the wastegate, i just run a vacume hose from the IC pipe to the Wastegate right? just making sure. And one more thing, Does anyone know how i can hook up my Blitz SSBC Boost Controller? its the older one that is black and just has two knobs. Someone please help, thanks

boost leak or dirty MAF or timing or unrecirc BOV could really be any of these.... Start checking and start eliminating which ones are the propable problems...I'd get the motor straightened out before the boost controller gets into the mix....

no it happens all of the time sometimes when it is just idling, and just revving it sitting still under no load at all. i read that recirc the bov just helps when i let off the gas cuz the excess air is released but fuel has already been put into the cylinders, so that is not my problem, because its not just when i let off its when i push the gas too. It was running fine, but now its not.

someone has to know how to fix this i have no boost leak i checked the mafs but it looks all good, the idle is really low but timing is right on the second from the right with timing gun, and i doubt its a unrecirc bov cuz when i tough the gas it just sounds like a lawn mower from the exhaust, just like that put put put put sound.

okay well my spark plugs were gapped wrong, that fixed the backfiring problem, but when i rev it the whole time i am hitting the gas from the exhaust it sounds like put put put and just speeds up like i can hear the cylinders fire, its not smooth or n e thing like it use too be.. and still confused about that coilpack stuff.

ok, your coil packs should all ohm out to the same thing, so just take a multimeter and unplug all the coilpacks, and test them. If one comes up different, then thats your culprit, I dont know of the exact ohmage (resistance) of a working coilpack, but I know this is how you can tell. I would definately think that it might be this. YOu could have not tightened down a spark plug, and it was leaking and caused the coilpack to burn a little and melt. Or it could be a coilpack gone bad? I never seen one go bad so far, but I have 4 extra's if you need one just let me know.

I would also ohm out your injectors, and they should all read b/w 9 and 11.5 im pretty sure. If you get a bogus one, then bingo. Also test to see if your car runs any different with the coolant sensor unplugged (its located on the left of the motor if your in front of the car, its the 3 wire plug above the TPS, which is on the other side of the throttle lever on the Throttle Body.)

Let me know

alright i had a fried coilpack and its running a whole lot better now, but still sometimes at high rpms under a load it bucks a little, and a slight backfire sometimes, i was thinking i had a boost leak but i cant find one. any suggestions? i got all the power im supposed to have, and now can someone help with my boost controller and wastegate?

oh and with the boost controller it has like 3 places for vacumm lines, its electronic not manual, and the coldpipe? how come the cold pipe? do you mean hotpipe? as for this whole backfire crap, im thinking its my MAFS because well, im above 8 psi and i heard the SOHC MAF can only sense 8 psi, so i need to hook up my ebc so i can turn down my boost, someone wanna PM me on how to do that?

nevermind i should be at stock boost so i think i just fried the mafs because i was leeking air where my wastegate connects to me janky ic piping, got new piping now and hoping i can solve problem with a new sohc maf, is it true you ahve to remap the ecu with Z32 MAF? Someone wanna help please
