what are the week points of the red-top sr20det. what power levels will the stock bottom end hold up too? i have seen some sr20det make more than 400rwhp on the stock bottome end, but for how long? i would like to make a reliable 350-400hp. i don't plan to drive around on a 1.5+ bar(probable pretty close though)what about powertrain. i was reading that the infiniti J30 vlsd can be used in a 240sx. What kind of modification's need to be done to use it in a 1989 240sx. thanks for all your help(and yes, i know i should have searched for this stuff  )

Yes, you should have searched :p The sr bottom end really isnt the main problem that sr's have. 500-600whp is doable. The valvetrain has issues at high rpm, but there are ways to remedy them. Just like any engine, if you get severe enough detonation, you will lose a piston or two. One of the biggest cause of sr deaths ive sean have been due to oiling problems. There are alot of people daily driving theses cars with >300whp and they are reliable by tuned car standards.
Yes, the j30 lsd will work just fine. No real modifications are needed but you need to try and get the front mounting bolts from the j30. Otherwise you will need to buy some longer bolts and large washers, as the front mounts are slightly different. You also need to swap covers, but no big deal.

nissans are pretty notorious to have crappy water pumps, i know my SR does. As in any turbo car, oiling and cooling are the main problems. The SR has a TINY oil pan so an aftermarket unit is a good idea, and a koyo radiator and nismo thermostat should take care of most cooling problems. Other than that, its hard to find a stronger engine!

the valve train uses rocker arms that can lead to issues at higher rpms, there are rocker arm stopper kits that remedy this though, and some people dont like the fact that the engine uses one arm for two valves (cant say i know why thats a gripe)

Also, at 400 horsepower that engine won't break (if you're lucky :crossfing), but it isn't going to last you very long either, you'll probably have to rebuild it after a year. They'll take it, but you're really pushing your luck...

yea the greddy oil pan looks huge compared to the stock (still waiting for mine). The stock oil pan is only 3.25 quarts with filter replaced.

The sr20det does not have a metal head gasket as its not needed with the small amount of boost the STOCK turbo can put out. But with turbo upgrades... you should always include the metal head gasket to eleviate any problems the higher compression due to higher PSI can cause.

has anybody had any experience with the hks full turbo kit(manifold, wastegate, etc)i have talked to a couple people that said there was problems when fitting the hks manifold's(steering rack)designed for the RHD models? i don't want to dish out $3,000.00+ on a turbo kit and find out it might work.
