All s13 and s14 trannies have the same gear ratios and same final drive: (taken from 30moons.com)

The VLSD versus open differential does not change the gear ratio, the only differential that does is the one from a 300zx TT, which becomes a 3.69 final drive ratio (R230V diff... taken from zilvia.net)

all s13s came with either:
195/60R15 all-season steel-belted radials, 205/60R15 high-performance summer-compound radials (SE Handling Packages). (taken from 30moons.net)

You need to read up more about gear ratios and how the engine has nothing to do with them.

hmm.... uh oh! time to check the FSM.... ok on page 434 of the s14 SR20DET FSM (PD-35) it says that for the R200V differential, it says the final drive gear ratio is 3.692 for the manual transmission and 3.916 for the Auto tranny differential. interesting.

 

that is really interesting. i tink thats the first time i have seen a manual have a higher final drive than the auto. wonder why they did that

I thought that the 5th gear in SR tranny was shorter then the 5th gear in the KA tranny. Maybe it was the other way around. I dont remember.

 

my Sr tranny has a longer 5th gear than my KA tranny. SR is 70mph @ 3000rpm. KA is around 60-65mph @ 3000rpm. Auto should have the quicker rear gear ratio since the tranny gears are lengthened more.

 

hmm that's interesting my coupe with DOHC KA with an open diff I was 70 Mph @ 3,000rpm. Now with my blacktop and VLSD from a Hicas 240 I'm like 60-65 @ 3,000rpm

 

ive got a SOHC KA. 5th gear might be shorter than the DOHC trannies.
