Swapping heads from KA24DE to KA24E, please read!

Hey everyone, just picked up my 1990 original owner 240sx w/ 101k on it, car is awesome, I like it a lot better than the S14 I just had, only problem is that its sooooooooooooooo slow. Now I'm no noob to cars, I have a fully built MR2 that I've been working on for a long long time. So I'm looking for a bit more instant power and after reading that the comp ratio gets bumped to 11.0:1 with just swapping heads, I'm pretty interested. Not looking for forced induction or anything because this is my daily driver. I like the fact that it gets 400 miles to a full tank.

But anyway, I did some searching and found out that a DOHC KA24DE head can bolt right onto a KA24E block (please correct me if I'm wrong). Now I read that there might be some issues with some part of the lower timing chain cover or something like that, but what I really wanted to know was, does anything electrical have to be changed in order for this to work right? Meaning, ECU or harness? Also can the KA24DE head come off an altima or does it strictly have to come off an S14? is there any difference to using an altima's parts? they come with the same engine I think (1998 style altima's). Any tips on how to get this accomplished will be greatly appreciated. And also, this can just directly bolt up with no problems? meaning that I take the old one off and slap the new one on, all the water ports and everything line up right? From the looks of it a lot of the 240sx parts are interchangeable with a bunch of different year nissans, I'm kinda liking this whole Nissan thing, the MR2 world is a very expensive world to get by in, where MKII MR2's only have parts that are interchangeable with... well you guessed it ... MKII MR2's, which also means a lot of trips to the dealer.

But anyway. I'm really looking to complete a head swap. If someone can lead me in the right directions I'll take a bunch of pictures and write up exactly what I did. Thank you!

Everything I have heard is that you cannot swap the heads out, the water and oil ports do not match up. I am not sure tho. If you really wanna get the performance just look into putting a higher compression piston set in your engine. Instead of having to get different intake manifold, different exhaust manifold, and deal the little issues with the timing cover, and I believe (not sure tho) you would need the single slammers distributor too, and coil.

I have seen that thread floating around too I know you will deffintaly need the exhaust and intake manifolds, possibly the whole engine room harness down to the computer a 24de ecm and something to tune w/. As you should know from building your mr2 you should probably up grade the injectors and igniton system for the higher compression.
Do alot of research and get in contact with people that have done it. Have fun and good luck.

If you wanna stay all motor go with a DOHC with SOHC pistons like tallic_red240sx said ^^.
Of if you would rather boost it, bolt on a turbo to the SOHC and enjoy 230hp+ to the wheels and plenty of usable torque.
