Is there any way I can see why this engine light is on? I know in my old Integra I could read the codes off this light hidden on the passenger side to find out what the engine light was for... is there something like that for the s14??

well for an obd 1 car put the key in and turn the car on and engine off and go to the ecu on the passenger side below the dash and turn the knob with a flat head screwdriver counter clockwise and hold for 2 seconds. then turn the knob back clockwise till it stops. then the check engine light will blink 3 times and after that you will recieve codes (long pause for the frist number, and short pauses for the 2nd number). for an obd1 s14 95- early 96 that are obd1 do the same as above

for late 96-98 models use an obd2 scanner for codes

My check engine light turns on and remains on for a coupe of days, then it turns off for another couple of days, then turns on again....everythign is fine, but i havent checked for codes yet...does any one have this issue too? i have a 1990 shoc.

I was doing some reading up.. for the s14 after 50 ignition starts the ECU will reset and say everything is fine. That is probably why your check engine light turns on and off.. there probably is something wrong with yours though that is setting it off.

obd1 cars have a screw on the back of the ecu. unlike the honda, where you short the 2 connectors, you just put it in run, and move the pin to the other end, wait 2 seconds, move it back and watch it flash. longs are 10's, shorts are 1's.

check engine light on mine (89 SOHC) was acting up then stayed on. nothing seemed wrong at all. checked for codes on the ecu anyway and it turned off. no way i had 50 ignition starts to clear it. I do need a new O2 sensor though. I read a couple of days ago that a loose gas cap can sometimes set it off but i think that could be a big load of B.S., has anyone else heard that?

is the nob on the ecu located in the back of the ecu. im assuming that i have to remove the ecu mounting brackets right?
