I noticed that there isn't a dedicated, comprehensive coilover thread here.
So I'm going to start one for those of us/you who do not have coilovers yet and need some personal opinions/feedback or just want to share your likes/dislikes.

So, I need:
1) the brand & model coilover you run
2) the type of driving you do
3) your feelings/impressions about them
4) are you happy with their customer service?
5) where you got them
optional:
6) how much you paid
7) good or bad customer service (if bought from a retailer who is not the manufacturer)

I know there has been significant discussion of mr's, kts', tein etc., but this is more to give an easy, one-stop solution for people's coilover questions.

Also, suspension components all work together, so if you have other suspension goodies that you feel have greatly improved the handling of your car, let us know too.

Thanks!

I'd start, but I don't have any yet. :dancingwt

good idea, dude.
here's my shiznit:

Megan Racing coilovers (8kg/6kg)
I don't drift. I prefer grip driving. I like these a lot, I just wish the valving was a little bit stiffer/stronger.

These coilovers were not made by MR, they're produced by some random Taiwanese/Chinese company just like a lot of other brands. BCEC, an Australian company uses the same coilover and is listed under "VH design" on their site. I have seen the shock dynos compared to Tein HE and the MR coils had better response over the entire range.

In comparison to the KTS SC coilovers on www.splparts.com I give the MR badged coilovers a strong second to KTS. And for the price I paid ($900ish) and the current price I see a lot ($850) these are great beginner coilovers for drift use or autoX (solo1 and solo2).

32adj. dampening sucks though.
8-10 settings would be ideal for me.

- KTS SC Damper (8f/6r , 15 way adjustable)

- Daily driving with the occansional backroad sprited driving

- Very good for daily driving compared to my old Kei Office. The Kei Office had the same spring rate, but the dampening was horrid (too stiff) for the streets I deal with everyday. Rebound is very "smooth" and noticeable reduction in body roll. When I first installed them, I didn't have to adjust to height for that "ideal" height for me. It's set low...but not too low that I scrap over speed bumps. They are by no means as soft as stock suspension, so when you hit a bumpy road you will notice it. Replacing shocks are easy and inexpensive thru http://www.splparts.com .

^^^KTS SC's have been said to be bad ass for a reason...hahaha
and i know more people than me and Simple have coilovers...where's bob and that dude who raves about his Tein Super Drifts?

- K Sport Kontrol Pro Coilovers (7kg/5kg 36way adj.)

-Daily Driving/Grip Driving

-Pros, Good for daily driving and track use. Overall I like this better than a spring/strut combo as this has pillow ball mounts and adjustable spring perch & body.

-Cons, I drive on rough roads daily and I'm starting to see slight signs of leakage after about 6 months. It does have a 1 year warranty and the K Sport place that rebuilds them are local to me so thats a plus.

Overall good product for the money.

1) the brand & model coilover you run : Ksports (7/8) tried 8/7 9/8 9/7
2) the type of driving you do :mostly daily driving and touge (grip of course) planning to autox too.
3) your feelings/impressions about them : i like em, but too soft for me. since i dropped 7/8 combo i liked it better.
4) are you happy with their customer service? : yes, thru intense motorsport very fast & reliable.
5) where you got them : first ksport GB on nico
optional:
6) how much you paid: 720 shipped
7) good or bad customer servic : trix motorsports ran away with peoples money, which is bad .

1) Tein basic damper S14 (6/6)
2) Drift
3) Great handling, wish they were a bit stiffer, who needs damper adjustability for drift, just buy stiffer springs
4) Are you kidding, this is tein, customer service was half the reason i bought from them, phil told me if ANYTHING ever goes wrong, just send them back for new ones, no Questiosn asked
5) Local dealer
optional:
6) Retail is 830.00 for s14 at *****, i paid just over 500
7) Yeah, not only was i hooked up, hes always got me when i need something

In a nutshell, my tein basics are a good economy coilover that can get the job doen decently, add some 8k and 10k springs and its going to outperform alot of coilovers out there, damper adjustability to me jsut means more things to worry about breaking, thats why i didnt think it was necessary since i used to drive on tein type flex (non nissan) with EDFC and couldnt feel a big difference AT ALL... os i figured id try the lower end, because of an outrageous price, and i wont think twice about buying another coilover

my roomate has mega nracing coilovers on his s14... decent

my next door neighbor has apex n1 for his s14... okay

my late friend matt (2002whiteWRX <---- user on here) had tein HE on his s14.... very nice, great spring rates

thats it, thanks

Do all teins have a lifetime warranty? Ive seen different sets on sale on ebay and craigslist for decent prices but if they come with lifetime warranties there worth paying retail price or whatever sales are at a shop

well, since no one else has, i'll post up my review of my buddy's tein HE's.

these coilovers grip better than they "drift", imo. i drove jesse's car a number of time and found the valving to be slightly weak, but still good for consistent abuse. i think the main reason they weren't as easy to break loose on was b/c of the rear toe settings on the car though.

16adj setting is cool, not to many, and each click can be felt.

price was $1150, iirc. they're now discontinued, but they were great for the time/price when they were introduced.

as far as build quality, i give it s 8/10. they were nice, semi-thick, strong, but the anodizing gave way to rust after only a few months....i mean, WTF?

old coilovers
1) JIC FLT-A1
2) grip/autox type. haven't taken to track yet. tranny problems and waiting to improve front suspension first.
3) handling was pretty good. for daily driven it was too stiff especially on LA freeways. made alot of noise from dampening got annoying after a while
4) never dealt with them personally
5) hooked up from friend sponsored by JIC

what i run now
1) Tanabe Sustec Pro Type-II

3) a whole lot more driveable for street/daily driving. minimal noise from shocks. not really impressed by color schemes: shocks are a peachy color and dust boot orange. the fact that they didn't come with pillow ball mounts was a major con. paid about 1400-1500 plus another 400 for pillowball mounts, would have opted for Pro DD's for $1000 more or less (or maybe something betterat that price). haven;t installed the pillowball mounts on the car yet so my front end sits higher than with the jic due to camber adjustability at the moment. i feel a bit more bodyroll with my current setup, hopefully after i get everything setup up on my car i can get a better feel.

5) phase2motortrend

1) SILK ROAD SECTION 8
2) daily driving with occassional open area slide (no lsd)
3) great coilovers very firm, but alas too stiff for daily driving. my car likes to bounce over every rock
4) haven't dealt directly with them.
5) raretrick.
optional:
6) 1300 shipped, he quoted i asked for 1300.
7) great communications in terms of ordering.

1) the brand & model coilover you run: KYB AGX's and Eibach Sportlines
2) the type of driving you do: daily spirited and monthly drifting
3) your feelings/impressions about them: good for what I do, adjustable so my dad can drive it when he needs to. lol
4) are you happy with their customer service?: yes
5) where you got them: ebay stores. actually received exceptional service from ebay stores selling these
optional:
6) how much you paid:forgot
7) good or bad customer service (if bought from a retailer who is not the manufacturer):good

Do you use swift springs?

1. jic FLT-A1US 7/5

2. sprited daily, occasional drift and auto x

3. the front spring tension is around the half way mark and the rear is near full stiff with dampening front at 2-3 and rear 3-4 cant remember off hand the car is very neutral and blanaced rides reasonable smooth in my opinion im very happy with them the damping is great only thing is the rears make a little compression noise but i could care less.

4. havent called them yet but they offer full rebuild parts so if anything goes wrong you can replace every individual part

5. local shop

6. 1175 + a new intake filter

7. no comment

only other suspension mod is tanabe strut tower bars
coilovers have been on about 7 months with no rust issues
