I don't know if its been done before but how hard (or not) would it be to put a 4.5 V8 from the early Q45 into a 240sx? Has anyone ever tried it? What do you guys think about 270+ horsepower out of a N/A setup for a 240sx?

Murphy is right, if you have to ask you are not ready to do it your self, but its not impossible. It has been done a few times, it takes alot of money and alot of fabrication skills, tools ect. Its a type of swap that you would do only if YOU wanted to do it, trust me, after you drop in a VQ, TONS of people will bag on it, "oh V8, it must be soooooo front heavy" or "you spent how much and your only making what much power, wtf? my SR will smoke you sucka" But V8s do fit in S13s and when done right they look like they belong in the car

behold a car that was made in the land down under

There are a few people with VQs in the USA, i think one is FI too.

be ready to make headers, relocate the fuel feed line, be happy with an automatic or spend tons of $$+time for manual trans swap, if you have ABS you have to mod the ABS braket, remake your front sway bar, along with other easy stuff like making motor mounts, trans mount, drive shaft and so on. and all of that is not for the VQ motor, its for a V8 that is smaller, i hear it takes more to drop in a VQ I say if you like the VQ motor or any motor for that matter, get a cheep S13 shell and build your self a project car from the ground up step by step. :dancer

the v45de is a really awesome swap but it requires a couple of modifications.

  • Cut/modify stock headers
  • Notch framerail for alternator
  • Modifying engine wiring harness
  • Swap and raise brake booster
  • Modify engine crossmember
  • Modify transmission shifter linkage
  • Custom build transmission adapter
  • Modify hood for clearance
  • Custom ps lines
check out ellisautoworkz.com they are the ones who built it.

as u can tell i've looked into the swap and would like to do it but i dont have the funding.

4w4k3 no one was talking about an lsx. and screw hinson

now back onto the topic of the v45de, drift4life pretty much summed up what you need. and its like most hard/hybrid swaps, if you have to ask well then you shouldn't be doing it.

if you can't fabricate or have minimal mechanical knowledge id stick with something simple like a sr. or well if you have way to much damn money its a whole different ballpark

This is why we should rob a bank and burn down an orphanage. Pocket full of money, and some crispy baby fritters to snack on.

Funny though, I'm seeing this exact topic discussed on numerous forums right now. Who knows maybe the domestic V8 swap will be the new RB swap (hope not). Definitely be more 240's sitting in junk yards if thats the case. Trust me, it doesnt take long to get buck ass wild in a car with that much power and torque and the slightest touch of the gas, even going in a straight line.

Well you have all these drift cars with fully built race motors clutch kicking 100+ drifts on Neova tires and do they have axles?, i dont think you would be snaping them with stock NA power. The only time it would really matter is redline launching on 10+inch MT slicks that aired down

Well with the swap i sort of assumed you would use a 1 piece as its a cheep simple driveshaft solution for the swap, instead of modding the stock shaft to work.

Didn't say either would work or wouldn't, the man made a statement and to it I replied with a possible solution. My buddy is running stockers in his damn near 500 hp daily no problems. Sure its something to consider before dropping 600 or 700 dollars on a set of custom axles.

Well these things are poping up left and Right as you all have noticed. I helped out my friend a little bit with his headers and such. So alot of my ways of doing swap are basically based off of his, pretty much everything was pretty well thought out and done right. I didn't want to make this huge post and have like step by step bolt by bolt replay. CAR IS COMPLETE!!!
Here is with 2871r 740 injector z32 maf 100 octain on a sr20det redtop

I have to say i am not a fan of cross breading, this is 1 reason I went with a VH45de for my s13. Another reason is that the VH is an amazing engine! Some of you may have seen the vh45dett jet boat video and thought wow! The real WOW part is that the engine in that boat is pushing 1000hp on stock internals and stock head gaskets.

I thought of doing an N/A VH but then I found a few cars that had already done that so I decided to do a tt set up. This will be my drift car and I will be competeing in IDCR with it in the summer.

The Vh is mounted to a z32tt tranny via a custom adapter plate which I got off a guy an the UK, everything else I built myself. Everything is in the build stage, I will do all the fit and finish (polishing ..ect...) when the chassis goes to the body shop and the engine is out.
