I have a 97 Infiniti J30 and a 96 240sx. I want to put the VG30DE in the 240sx and I'm kind of lost about a few things. Since the J30 is automatic and the 240 is standard am I going to need to change the computer? I know that the VG30DE was also used in the 300zx. Can I use one out of that? I want to keep my transmission a standard shift. Can I even keep the 240 tranny or will I need a different one? I'm doing all the work myself and I have whatever tool I need at my disposal. I just need a little help with some logistical stuff thanks.

Z32 trans. NA or TT. Obviously the TT will hold more power, and personally dude. I am doing a VG30DETT swap, I am making the mounts all in house. Its not that hard.

Here are some things you need to watch out for:
- MOST people here at the 240sx forums don't give a sh!t about VGs and are NOT very helpful. (just calling it as I've experienced it)
- The VG30 is a WIDE engine, make sure your clearances are all in order.
- You *MAY* have issues with the exhaust clearing the steering column.
- JWT can reflash the ECU to use a manual trans. keep your J30 one.

- the J30 to 240sx ECU/harness conversion is straightforward. get both FSMs out (J30 and 240sx) and do some cross referencing and BOOM! you got yourself a homemade harness for the price that it takes of just some research.

- custom driveshaft & get an LSD from a J30 if you can as well. 95-96 only (the output flanges match up & make sure to grab the longer bolts from the J30 as you will need them to mount the LSD on the 240sx. The longer bolts are needed because of the thick mounting points)

- The VG swap isn't that hard. Most people don't do it because its not JDM or they just aren't open minded.

- The VG will give your car better handling because of its shorter V pattern, and sits further back towards the firewall.

- I personally think the VG30 swap is one of the best swaps out there. you get 50% more displacement than an SR, more REV capability than a KA (not saying the KA can't REV) and you get a nice FAT torque curve.

one thing though... GO WITH A TWIN TURBO. or at least Nitrous... N/A won't cut it for you.

shoot me a PM if you so desire.

Just my 2 cents...

Oh -
Congrats on not going with a KA, SR, CA, or RB.

yup -

if you are using a TT transmission you will need to use the TT flywheel, starter etc.
but if you are using a NA transmission you will be fine. Both the NA and the TT can hold up to 420hp (ballpark)

oh, if you decide to go TT and use the NA 5spd you will need to trim the bellhousing of the NA trans. and use a NA starter. I hope this makes sense..

Also I have stock TT manifolds if you are interested. along with TT con rods, and turbo stuff. shoot me a PM.

you will probably have better luck in a local wrecker trying to find and pull your own 300zx 5spd. (if you are on a budget) I know here that ANY trans goes for $120. that includes core charge, environmental fee etc.

so for $120 you can have your own 5spd and spend 180 that you saved on a nice dinner :twocents:
*this is assuming you know how to check if the 5spd is any good. otherwise you will spend about $600 rebuilding it.

if you want to know anything else ask for my email in a PM
