Which is a good standalone ECU?

I am running Haltech E6k on my blacktop sr20det w/ T28 and no MAF right now, I'm wanting to switch to a more reliable standalone ECU. Any Suggestions?

A haltech isnt unreliable. The only way it would be giving you problems is if the tune was off, which would be the case for any standalone, or if it was installed wrong. The only downside I can see for a e6k would be that its not plug and play, you ahve to do your own wiring.
The other best standalone is an Electromotive Tec3. Youll run into the same issues with it too. The AEM ems is the best all around unit. Its plug and play, its fully standalone and really feature laden, and is fairly user freindly.
if you are running "no mafs right now" then im assuming you are running a MAP sensor, so youll need something to work well with that. The aem is doable.
Although, youasked about pricing...if you are running an espensive ass e6k, then dont worry about the aem, its WELL within your budget.

Is it worth the money to buy a SAFCII if you're just going to upgrade to a standalone later in the future? Can they be used together?
I'd like to know this as well, do I need both the ECU and an SAFC or just the standalone?

SAFC will go out the door when you install your standalone because you will have complete and more precise tuning ability of spark and fuel with the standalone. The only case you would use an SAFC is with factory ecu or reflashed (enthalpy/jwt) ecu for a bit of fine tuning on top of the factory/rom tune.

Apexi Power FC is the best bang for your buck standalone if you own and SR.

whats really important when shopping for a standalone is to see what YOUR LOCAL TUNER is comfortable with tuning. We recomend systems we know alot about and can install and troubleshoot with no problems. i.e.- Apexi PFC or Electromotive

and if I am playing with my KA? Project240 recommended the JWt in my turbo thread. But the budget is getting out of hand considering my goals. It'd be nice if there was a better (aka cheaper) solution to fuel management and timing than dumping $1000 on an ecu and SAFC

Welcome to ther real world of high end tuning where it's all or none. Real time dyno tuning is where it's at. I would call local shops that do dyno tuning and see what they recommend.

Mail order ecu's work but they'll never be truly spot on. Using an safc-II is only a band aid for errors on a rom tune. You CAN get by with one though.

The best situation would be to have Scott (Enthalpy) real time dyno tune your motor but unfortunately he lives in FL and IIRC has a full time job now.
