I did my auto to manual swap the same time as my sr swap on my 1996 240sx with an S14 sr20det. My question has to do with the reverse lights and neutral position sensor. I have 4 wires for the 2 sensors, (black, green, green/white, and green/pink) comming form the tranny, but i need to know what wires to splice them into to get theses 2 sensors to work. (I assume the black wire is a ground and can just be grounded out.) When I got the wiring outsourced they told me to color match the wires, but there is no color matches comming out of the fuse box. Any help, advice, or even pictures would be greatly appreciated.

hey, im doing the same thing, and im having phase2 do my wiring service and all of a sudden they say they want another $150 to do the auto to manual service. im swapping a 98 engine into a 97 car, so mine is just like yours, so if you could give me any info on what exactly has to be done converting auto to manual that would be awesome. ive been looking at the above link trying to figure out what phase2 would actually be charging $150 for? it doesnt seem to me that i would need to splice into anything concerning the main engine harness since i have everything that is for a 5spd with the clip. i just thought i would have to mess with the wires in the steering column and by the fuse box. so, is it worth it to pay the $150 or should i do it myself?

Off topic: that sucks about them wanting to charge you an extra 150 bucks. I'd raise a fit about that. I mean, can they legally do that? If they have on their website somewhere that its extra $$$ to convert auto-manual, then you're just S.O.L., but if they dont....i mean, i dunno the legalities of any of this shit, but it just seems to me like they cant do that. Like how its illegal for stores like target/walmart to advertize an item but get you to buy a different "comparable" item....not exactly the same, but similar, if that makes sense.

yeah, im not too happy about it, but phase2 is giving us a good deal on the normal wiring service because they have good customer service and the wiring came spliced into (although now they are trying to say that thats how it should come, but i seriously doubt that). im just thinking that is a lot more money to pay, but im wanting to get this done fast and i am extremely busy with school right now, so im thinking i will just go ahead and do it, i was just hoping to get some feedback first from someone who has done it.

Speedo

I just read everything on that link about wiring and it didnt say anything about wiring that would effect the speedometer. I have a 95 that had a 5 speed s13 tranny swaped into it when i bought it. The speedo is all messed up. I was told that there is some wiring that needs to be changed in the harness coming out of the fuse box by the battery that effects the speedo. When im driving on the freeway it says im going like 120mph?! Any help please.

I have another related question:

I am about to start on my auto -> manual conversion on a 97. I am getting the swap from a friend. We do not know how much of the trannie wiring harness we need to take out of his car to put in my car. I haven't seen it, but he said that the trannie wiring harness runs from the transmission all the way to the engine fuse box. Sorry about the vague description, but I don't really know what the trannie wiring harness looks like or how much of it I need. Does anyone have pics of it?

That's true. There are 3 switches on the S14 trannies (4 on the S13 ones). One is for Reverse lights, one is 5th gear sensor and the other one is the neutral switch. You only need the reverse switch wired in.

All you need is the connector that will plug into the reverse gear switch (it's the switch closest to the bellhousing) and run those 2 wires to the fuse box. You'll need to connect it to the 3rd plug near the fuse box to pin number 3 and 8 (green and black wire). The plugs are found beside the fuse box and you'll have to disconnect all of them cuz that's part of your auto tranny harness. Also, keep the connector for the first one and loop those 2 wires so you can actually start your car.

Hint: You can actually wire in a kill switch to that first connector and hide it somewhere in the car.

The other side of the tranny harness is for your speed sensor. You don't need any kind of modification for that.
